Marlena takes 1st in her debut performance
The night before the match, my daughter Marlena was nervious. She was afraid that she would fall down in front of several people who came to watch her perform. My wife and I explained that many pro skaters fall and they just get right back up and perform. We saw several skaters perform before Marlena was up and we saw some fall and get right back up.
Then it was Marlena's turn. Yes she was nervious but her competition seemed to be even more nervious so she was in good company. But when she hit the ice for her turn, the only thing that went wrong was the announcer butchering her last name. She did everything good, maybe not perfect in the judges eyes (Honestly just think they look for more then just mistakes but how fluid your moves are). Even came down to the finish on the last pic on the ice which was perfect.
I was there for the final practice and her only problem was the backward switzals. I let her know it was the only thing she was sturggling with. My only suggestion was to be more fluid on the backward and not be mechanical. Looks like
she took it to heart because even those were good. Everyone enjoyed her finish.
